The Economics of Scavenging

Every raid in Dumpster Gang operates against a ticking clock. As your gang rummages through kitchens, garages, and tool sheds, your team's collective carrying capacity is strictly limited. Loading your cart with worthless junk wastes stamina, creates unnecessary noise, and leaves you vulnerable when John Exterminator arrives.

To maximize your earnings, your gang must think like seasoned burglars. The golden metric of Dumpster Gang scavenging is the Value-to-Weight Ratio (VWR): how many Trash Coins an item generates divided by the movement speed penalty and raccoon hands required to transport it.

Understanding which items yield the highest return allows your crew to clear mission targets in fewer trips and extract with substantial scrap fortunes.

Comprehensive Loot Tier List

Items in Dumpster Gang are categorized into four distinct loot classifications based on their physical profile and market value:

Pocket Valuables (Zero Carry Penalty)

These compact items slip directly into your raccoon's fur pouch. They do not occupy your hands, allow full-speed climbing and jumping, and cannot be dislodged unless you are caught by John's boot.

Lightweight Hand Loot (Single Raccoon)

Requires both paws to hold. You can still sprint and make short jumps, but wall-climbing is disabled until you toss the item upward onto a ledge.

Bulky Appliances (1 to 2 Raccoons)

Significantly reduces solo movement speed. When carried by two raccoons simultaneously, movement speed increases to 85% of normal sprint speed.

Heavy Relics & Furniture (2 to 4 Raccoons)

Massive objects like living room couches, commercial refrigerators, and antique cast-iron safes. Moving these solo is virtually impossible and will alert all nearby enemies.

Fragility and Handling Rules

Certain high-value treasures carry a Fragility rating. Dropping a fragile item down a stairwell or tossing it off a second-story roof onto concrete will crack or shatter it:

  1. Intact Value: Selling an undamaged item awards 100% of its base Trash Coin and scrap value.
  2. Chipped / Dented: A moderate drop causes minor cosmetic damage, reducing value by 25%.
  3. Shattered Debris: A severe drop or collision with John's boot pulverizes the item into loose shards, leaving only 25% salvage value.

To safely lower fragile antiques from upper floors, have one raccoon stand on the lawn below with open paws. Thrown items caught by a teammate suffer zero impact damage regardless of drop height.

Scrap vs. Decoration: What to Keep

When you unload the getaway cart at the hideout, every non-consumable item presents a choice: salvage it for coins or place it in your den.

  • Always Salvage: Silverware sets, copper pipes, broken microwaves, and spare car batteries. These offer massive coin returns with zero hideout utility.
  • Always Keep & Place: Portable radios, neon signs, lawn flamingos, and comfortable armchairs. These grant lasting ambient buffs and cosmetic prestige to your gang headquarters.
  • Situational Keep: Stolen power tools and toolboxes. Placing one in the hideout unlocks discounted repair costs at the Scrap Workbench.

Pro Tip

Before hauling heavy bulky items from inside a house, toss 4 to 5 pocket-sized valuables (rings, watches, wallets) through the window first. If John intercepts your team outside, you can abandon the heavy appliance and still escape with substantial profit.
